Good Morning America (GMA) did a story this morning on ocean acidification and how oysters are dying in Oregon. One of the largest oyster hatcheries in the country, after 30 years of growing oysters, suddenly found that their oysters were dying. Without warning, they went from producing more oysters than anyone else in the country to producing none! It took oceanographers to determine that Pacific sea water was the culprit, namely overly acid sea water that was making it impossible for the oysters to built their shells.
You may be asking yourself, “what does all this have to do with my health?”. Everything!
Just as the earth is made up 70% of water, our bodies are roughly 70% water. And just as the over-acidification of the oceans of the earth has a devastating effect on life in the oceans, the over-acidification of our oceans (the internal fluid and blood) of our bodies has a devastating effect on our health. Dr. Robert O. Young, who wrote the ground-breaking book, The PH Miracle, has made a very bold and revolutionary statement with regards to health and diet. He has shown that there “is only one sickness and one disease which is caused by over-acidification of the blood and then tissues due to an inverted way of living, eating and thinking”.
No matter how a disease presents itself, the root cause of this illness is the over-acidification of our bodies. The science, in brief, goes like this: Just like our body temperature is kept within a very strict range, our blood’s pH must be maintained at 7.365 in order for us to be healthy. Our bodies will do “whatever is necessary” to maintain this delicate balance, including taking calcium from our bones in order to neutralize excess acid.
Women fearful of developing osteoporosis should look towards their diets to determine whether or not they are overly acidic before looking for a solution with drugs. And the diet solution is not found with more calcium from traditional sources like dairy products. Cow’s milk is acidic and therefore when ingested your body must neutralize the acid. If your body doesn’t have sufficient alkaline buffers to accomplish this, it will seek other sources like your own bones in order to neutralize this acid load. Remember, your body will do whatever is necessary to keep your blood at its ideal pH.
So what can be done about ocean over-acidification? Granted the solution is not easy, but it is a simple one: reduce carbon emissions. By doing so, the oceans can begin to normalize their delicate pH balance. And how do we begin to normalize the delicate pH balance of our bodies? Again, the solution may not be easy (at first), but it is simple. Reduce the consumption of acidic foods and drinks. And equally, if not more importantly, control your thoughts. Hateful, fearful and negative thoughts in general have a direct effect on the pH balance of our bodies.
I recommend reading Dr. Young’s book, The PH Miracle, or get an excellent course which teaches you exactly how to balance your pH and take control of your own health. There is one such program which simplifies this process into a very doable format and presents the material in a way that is very easy to understand. Remember, knowing is not enough, we must do!
